Submit your own questionsQ: What Does 'Joint and Several' Mean?
I noticed in my tenancy agreement the phrase 'joint and several' - what does this mean?
A: If this phrase is appearing in your tenancy agreement, then this usually means that there is more than 1 person living in the property. By using this expression it means that, jointly, 'all tenants are liable for the payment of all rents as well as all liabilities falling upon the tenant during the agreement i.e. such as a breach of the tenancy agreement'. This means should 1 of your fellow tenants fail to pay their rent, you will all be responsible for paying it.
