Q: Tenant Responsibilities
What responsibilities do I have as a tenant? Are these the same for every tennant and does it vary for rental to rental?
A: Both you as a tenant and your landlord have got responsibilities towards your property let which are outlined in your assured shorthold tenancy agreement. However, to give you a brief overview, your responsibilities will be:
- Being honest and truthful in your Tenant Application Form
- Paying your rent as and when agreed
- If specified in your tenancy agreement, pay the properties council tax, electricity, water rates, gas, telephone and if you bring your own TV, a TV licence
- Arranging property insurance
- Taking care of the property
