Rental Sector Grows 5 Percent
Renting considered the future of the property market, as its dominance grows by 5% a year
History looks set to repeat itself according to renowned property educational provider Property Mentor. With the rental sector predicted to continue growing in dominance by 5% a year, it cannot be denied that we are facing a faint echo of what occurred at the beginning of the 20th century. 
As Matthew Lauchlan, Director of Property Mentor explains:
“At the beginning of the 20th century more than 70% of the population rented. However following the war, renting became surrounded by stigma and dropped to just 5% of the market place in 1992. Yet, this is now changing. Over the last 6 years we have witnessed a growing trend amongst the middle class, who are now swapping huge deposits, stamp duties and legal fees, for affordable rented accommodation.”
And Property Mentor is not alone in their prediction.
With mortgage deposits of 20-25% restricting most buyers from entering onto the property market, property experts Frank Knight recently forecast their expectations for the rental sector to grow from 9% to 25-30% in the next few years.
Similarly Yolande Barnes, the head of research at Savills recently divulged her theory that the rental sector will soon dominate 20% of the property market because of the numerous great deals currently available to property investors.
“It cannot be denied that renting is all the rage at the moment,” Niall Hebron, Property Mentor Finance went on to explain. “Compared to having a mortgage, renting gives tenants the flexibility to move and adopt different lifestyles. And considering we are in a recession this is great news for professionals looking for a new job – they can move freely without the problem of having to sell.”
