Buy To Let - The Future Of The Property Market
Research by Hometrack and the British Property Federation suggests that unless more funding is acquired for new homes, private rented landlords could soon be called upon to fill the UK’s growing housing gap.
According to their research, despite the recent 20%+ property price falls of the last 18 months, a massive gulf between social housing and home ownership is occurring which is preventing more and more homeowners from finding a home.
Unable to find the housing deposits they need to invest, and with no hope of new investments appearing from pension funds and buy to let investors – there will soon not be enough homes to fulfil homeowners’ demands. Especially for the thousands of homeowners, who unable to afford property are now discovering that they also don’t qualify for social housing either.
What can be done?
Speaking on this matter, the BPF’S director of policy, Ian Fletcher feels that the government can no remain politically muted about the private rented sector and its growing attention in housing circles.
With the support of landlords and property investors, Fletcher strongly believes the buy to let market could satisfy the UK’s housing needs for the long foreseeable future.
